Princess Al-Anood Philanthropic Foundation will host its second Ramadan Lecture starting Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. and for once a week during the month at its headquarters here along King Khalid Road.
The announcement was made by its secretary-general, Youssef bin Othman Al-Huzaim, as part of the organization's program to spread the message of tolerance. Last year's event was attended by a number of diplomats and expatriates.
The event during the holy month will feature various topics including on “Scientific Miracles of Eyes Creation” by professor Mubarak bin Fahad Alfaraan, “Tolerance in Islam” by Sheikh Abdullah bin Fahad Alluhaidan and “The History of Islamic Culture and Heritage in Latin America — Colombia” by Gustavo Peres Figueroa.
The Foundation, which belongs to the wife of late King Fahd, is investing SR 1,400 million will of Princess Al-Anood in real estate to sustain its philanthropic services, including the twin towers hotel along King Fahd Road in Riyadh. It will provide, among other things, 500,000 iftar (breaking of the fast) meals Kingdom-wide this year. As many as 120,000 families will benefit from the program to be implemented through 25 charitable organizations.
The foundation also built mosques and houses for poor Saudi families in remote areas. They sponsor orphanages and provide medical treatment for needy Saudi families. Future programs will include educational facilities and manpower training as part of charitable work.
The Princess Al-Anood Center for Youth Development (Warif) was established last year to provide services to meet the needs of Saudi youth and work for their welfare. The event also witnessed the conclusion of a number of cooperation agreements with various local and international organizations that work for youth welfare, including one with the General Presidency for Youth Welfare (GPYW) that was signed by its President Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd.
Another agreement was signed with radio station UFM, allowing Warif to sponsor the station’s various initiatives promoting the experience of young people. The third accord was with the Initiative of Children and Young People in the Middle East and North Africa.
The foundation Secretary-General Al-Huzaim disclosed that the charity spent SR 58 million on all types of charitable projects in 2010. This time the board has approved a SR 52 million budget for 2012. According to the financial report, the foundation has generated SR 323 million in revenue since its inception, of which SR 51 million has been spent on executing the will of Princess Al-Anood.
In a previous statement, Al-Huzaim said out of the total outlay last year, SR 12 million was spent on implementing charitable works, such as the construction of mosques, distribution of alms and sacrificial meat, serving iftar meals and providing drinking water to the needy in remote areas. The remaining amount was allocated for dawa work, children’s welfare, assistance to disabled people, housing programs, teaching of the Holy Qur’an, and family and social welfare programs.
