Royal recognition for media’s role in highlighting KSA legacy

Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, yesterday commended the Saudi press’ role in highlighting the Kingdom’s historical legacy.
Speaking to reporters after opening the “Saudi Historical Press Photo Gallery” at the International Convention and Exhibition Center, he said the media plays an important role in enlightening the new generation about the Kingdom’s history and progress.
“The Saudi press has contributed to the Kingdom’s cultural development and preserving national landmarks,” the crown prince said while praising the National Archives of Pictures.
Prince Salman, accompanied by Riyadh Gov. Prince Khaled bin Bandar, SCTA President Prince Sultan bin Salman, and Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja, toured the photo gallery with its images reflecting the political, economic and social development of the Kingdom over the past decades.
Prince Salman presented mementos to Saudi Aramco, STC and SCTA in recognition of their part in organizing the event. He also received a memento from the organizing committee.
The photos in the gallery cover the period from the inception of Saudi media until early 1980s. It also emphasizes the significance of photography in documenting the Kingdom’s history.
“The exhibition comes within the government’s efforts to preserve national memories,” said Prince Sultan. The event is organized by Turath Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Information, the SCTA and King Abdul Aziz Foundation (Darah), the King Fahd National Library and Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University.
Prince Sultan noted Prince Salman’s care in preserving culture and save landmarks of national identity. “The exhibition is important as it recalls key historical events that took place in the Kingdom and documented by the press in pictures and words,” he said.
