SABIC’s humanitarian mission recognized

Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of the Disabled Children's Association (DCA), presented the Humanitarian Service Award (Corporate Charity) to Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) at a function here Saturday. The award was announced by the DCA during its seventh session. Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thenayan Al-Saud, chairman of SABIC and the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu, received the award on behalf of the company, in the presence of Mohamed Al-Mady, SABIC vice chairman and CEO.
"SABIC's support for the association is in line with the initiatives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, who has always been encouraging humanitarian gestures by all people, especially toward children. Through his fatherly approach toward his people, he seeks to address their problems and concerns," Prince Saud said. He added: "We have partnered with various humanitarian and charity associations to enable us play an active role in community development consistent with our CSR mission. The DCA is one of these organizations which we are proud to collaborate with, and serve a valuable segment of our society, that is, our children. We support the DCA through various projects and programs, besides our annual donations to support the association in its humanitarian mission."
SABIC's commitment to support the DCA and its various activities and programs goes back to 2008 when SABIC introduced the "Pay per Month" program where employees contribute part of their salary every month to the association. In a proud moment for SABIC employees last year, Prince Sultan visited SABIC headquarters in Riyadh and symbolically presented the donations from the employees, under the "Pay per Month" initiative, to King Abdullah in celebration of the Saudi National Day.
SABIC has also initiated a "greeting card" program in support of the association. In addition to these annual support programs, SABIC extends assistance to the DCA's endowment project in Riyadh for the treatment and education of 20 children from the association for five years.
The Humanitarian Service Award is awarded by the DCA to acknowledge and thank partners and mobilize further support for its humanitarian mission. The DCA instituted the award in 1992 to honor its patrons and inspire further support from charitable and research bodies.
During the sixth session of the award in 2009, King Abdullah won the "Individuals Award," the Arab National Bank won the "Corporate Charity Award," and the Ministry of Education won the "Outstanding Projects and Programs Award." These are the three categories of the award.
