“The Ministry of Education will appoint any qualified English teacher,” said Khalid Al-Hammad, director of the Department of Educational Information in the Eastern Province.
Public schools in the Eastern Province are very short on teachers that can give English language lessons. He pointed out that the experimental phase for teaching the English language to the higher grades is over, and will soon be evaluated.
“Once the evaluation is done, it will be decided whether to extend the English language curricula to lower grades,” he added, stressing that in case of a shortage in English teachers, only the higher grades will receive English lessons.
Complaints by parents of the medium grades have increased lately due to the shortage in English teachers across the Eastern Province, with the second semester nearing its end.
They demanded that the ministry immediately and strongly intervened to find a solution for this problem, questioning at the same time the use of textbooks without teachers.
