In collaboration with the center for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), a wing of the University of Cambridge, the British Council held its annual Outstanding Cambridge Learners’ Awards at Hotel Crown Plaza recently to honor Sri Lankan students.
Founder and current chairman and adviser to the Board of Management of the Sri Lankan International School in Jeddah, Shahul Hameed Salih, told the young achievers they brought pride and honor to their families, countries and to Jeddah.
“I was delighted to witness the faces of the young awardees as sweet as morning dew upon a rose, gleaming with the glory of accomplishments,” he said.
Senior Education Adviser for CIE John Guy, was the chief guest.
Mohammed Naleer Yasir, a student from the Sri Lankan International School in Jeddah, earned the highest position as a topper in the world for mathematics in his performance at June 2012 IGCSE.
Other young achievers include student Nafeesah Jaleel, who won the High Achievement award for Environmental Management. Salma Zacky won the same for Global Perspective of Al Waha International School at the afore-stated examination.
The first place for the Best Across Four Cambridge International Advanced Level award was won by Manik Arachchige Suresh Nalaka Menik Arachchi of Bangladesh International School.
Nalaka secured the best results at IGCSE when he was a student at Sri Lankan International School.
Nalaka thanked management board members, principal, staff and all parents of the current and yester years for all the support.
This honor indicates a promising future for the students, their commitment and hard work is well paid off by awards of this nature.
