King Abdullah Oncology and Liver Center, set to be part of an integrated medical services facility in King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center (KFSH&RC), is now 55 percent complete in terms of construction work, the CEO of KFSH&RC recently announced.
Speaking to local media, Dr. Qasim Alqasabi said the center is being constructed according to the latest technical standards in serving diagnostic areas of tumors and liver diseases. He said the center reflects the true support and care given by the government of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to citizens.
According to the latest data released by the Saudi Cancer Registry (SCR), the number of tumor cases is recorded to be 12,000 per year.
The center, whose foundation stone was laid by the Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah in June 2011, will cost SR 906 million and will have 300 beds to serve citizens and residents in the Kingdom.
The center consists of 21 floors and will be built on an area of 83,250 sq. meters. The center will have 206 beds for tumor patients, 34 beds for tumor intensive care units (ICUs), 43 beds for liver patients and 17 beds for liver ICUs. The center will also contain eight operation rooms, two medical endoscopy rooms, 96 daily treatment units, and 22 one-day procedural units, Alqasabi said.
The chief of KFSH&RC said big efforts are being exerted to receive and treat the growing numbers of tumor and liver patients, whether at the Riyadh-based King Abdullah Oncology & Liver Center or at the nearly-awarded KFSH&RC in Jeddah whose capacity will reach 650 beds, set to be completed in three years time.
He said the Ministry of Health has launched five specialized medical cities in different parts of the Kingdom at the cost of SR 16 billion aimed to expand the base of beneficiaries of health care services throughout the Kingdom.
