The Ministry of Higher Education has directed the Saudi universities to allocate seats to foreign male and female students residing in the Kingdom, local Arabic daily Al-Watan reported Friday .
The sources said the directives of the ministry was within its desire to help expatriate students continue their academic studies as part of agreements it has signed with a number of Arab and Islamic countries to grant their citizens educational opportunities in the Kingdom.
The ministry asked the universities to allocate about 10 percent of their seats to the expatriate students while giving priority to Saudi students. In order to be given an opportunity to study at a Saudi university, expatriate students should have scored 90 degrees in his or her secondary certificate, should take all the necessary tests and honor the terms and conditions to be decided by each university.
The expat students will not be accepted in the colleges of health.
The sources said the foreign male and female students can be regular students, join the universities on part time basis and study to obtain diplomas.
