A seminar organized by Indian expatriate cultural organization Thanima Sargavedi has highlighted the important role played by Prabodhanam weekly in spreading the message of Islam among Muslims and non-Muslims in the south Indian state of Kerala.
In his keynote speech, S.M. Noushad, vice president of Thanima Saudi Arabia, said Prabodhanam was instrumental in supporting the Islamic reform movement, highlighting the idea that God Almighty’s instructions must be followed in all walks of life.
Noushad referred to the history of Islamic reform movements in the 20th century, adding their efforts are bearing fruit in the form of peaceful revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt and other countries.
He said the enemies of Islam and Muslims in the east and west have been trying to weaken the strength of the Islamic movement by tarnishing its image.
He said Prabodhanam won the hearts of non-Muslim readers as a result of its friendly and convincing dialogue style without hurting their feelings.
He said: “It’s the duty of Muslims in Kerala to support and strengthen this Islamic weekly to continue its mission with greater vigor.”
Abdul Shakoor Ali, president of Thanima North Zone, presided over the seminar.
He underscored the contributions of Prabodhanam during the past six decades, especially in conveying the message of the Qur’an to the Keralite community.
“Ever since its beginning, Prabodhanam has been publishing the commentary of the Qur’an every week.”
In his congratulations speech, Usman Irumpuzhi commended the Islamic Malayalam weekly’s popularity as a result of its impressive content and style.
“I have noticed that it is the only weekly that does not use its pages to abuse other parties.”
He wished Prabodhanam greater progress to maintain its status as the top Islamic weekly in Kerala.
Earlier, K.H. Abdul Raheem gave a presentation on the history and progress of Prabodhanam and saluted those who worked for its success, especially in its beginning stages.
Fasal Kochi urged participants to extend their full support to the weekly. The program began with a recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Abdussamad.
