DAKAR: A Senegalese man has died after setting fire to himself in front of Dakar’s presidential palace, hospital officials in the capital said on Tuesday.
Cheikh Mbaye, 32, self-immolated Monday and was rushed to Dakar’s main hospital with third-degree burns. He died early Tuesday.
Several self-immolations took place in Senegal in the wake of the Arab Spring uprisings, which were triggered by the self-immolation of Tunisian street vendor Mohamed Bouazizi.
In February 2011, two Senegalese died after setting themselves ablaze. Another person was saved in January of that year after attempting to self-immolate.
