All three matches played during the week for the ACE Travel Cup were one-sided affairs. In the Jeddah Cricket Associated organized league, Young Stars routed Old Students by 6 wickets, Munch Bakery crushed Peeran Warriors by 7 wickets while Jamco continued their winning streak with a comfortable 71-run win over Peeran-XI.
The highlight of the three matches was the fine all-round performance of Young Stars’ Arsalan, who scored a superb 102 runs and then later took 2 for 21 with the ball.
Batting first, Old Students managed 158 for 6 from their allotted overs. Imran Sr (37), Imran (26) and Abdul Rahman (27) were the main contributors.
Arsalan, Shabbir and Zakir took 2 wickets a piece for 21, 36 and 32 runs respectively. Arsalan once again played a major role for his team. He batted with command and authority. His innings of 102 was studded with 11 fours and 2 sixes.
Young Stars were home with 6 wickets in hand and an over to spare. Ali had 1 for 2. Atif and Rafiq claimed one wicket each.
In the other match, Munch Bakery bundled out Peeran Warriors for 95 runs. In reply Munch Bakery rattled this score and lost three wickets. Peeran Warriors batsmen had a miserable time against Umar and Mubeen. Umar had 3 victims for 37 runs whereas Mubeen gave away only 7 runs and grabbed 3 wickets. Saleem, Waleed and Shahzad had one wicket each.
For Peeran Warriors, Umar top-scored with 30 followed by Goshi with 17.
None of the other batsmen reached double figures. Munch bakery’s veteran openers — the two Zains — Zain ul Huda and Zain ul Salikeen scored 42 and 31 respectively and took their team close to their target. Munch Bakery scored the required runs in only 9 overs. Zubair claimed 2 wickets for 8 runs for the bowling side.
Elsewhere, Jamco maintained their winning streak after they beat Peeran X1 by 71 runs. Jamco batting first put on board 191 for 5. Khurram (59), Faisal (26), Waseem (29) and Nazim (26) were the main contributors.
Mubashir and Kashif remained unbeaten with 13 and 10 runs respectively. Shakeel had 2 scalps for 30 runs.
In reply Peeran X1 was skittled out for 101 runs Shakeel (23), Basith (34) and Nazim (20) did their best. Faisal claimed 3 for 8, Faisal 2 for 15. Mubashir and Sajjad had one wicket each.
