D’ Barkads served notice of their potential as championship contender after they pooled the highest total thus far of 44.5 points to claim Team of the Week honors during the third session in the FTBJ-ICBL 31st Conference bowling tournament at Jeddah Lanes here.
Thess Grandia doubled the joy for D’ Barkads when she won the ladies Bowler of the Week plum even as league leader Nasser Al Hajri turned in another solid display with 42 points and a men’s Bowler of the Week accolade courtesy of Zaldy Bacero.
Avengers, languishing at the bottom of the 12-team pack at the start of the day, surprised everyone when they finished on 35 points, good for third place behind D’ Barkads and Al Hajri.
Kulisap ni Moe followed Avengers on 32.5, with Sky Freight-TFC on 31, Qatar Airways 26, Oriana Akiera Sato Bowlers 28 and Lance & Thirdy 20.
Jem Strikers were among the four teams to miss 20 points mark on 16 points. Hidada Ltd., the second week honoree, could only muster 14 points while Pin Slashers and Taurus RDLR had 12 and 11.
D’ Barkads were consistent, finishing second in the first and third games, tying for second and third in the middle game and gaining the top overall output of 2,980.
Rey Beltran and Leo Edejer complemented the robust display by Grandia by shooting 631 and 628 for D’ Barkads.
Grandia tallied 589 on rounds of 184, 166 and 179. Rally Zamora came through with 176-192 and Dan Ednave made 207. Farida De Guzman, from the distaff side, added 536.
Bacero followed the lead of teammate Ladio Gonzales when he became the second player at Nasser to earn an individual award the past two weeks after shooting the high series of 677 on games of 232, 209 and 236. The trio of Randy Mata, Ester Jalata and Gail Mata did full games of 574, 560 and 545, while Cesar Monares compiled 180-200 and Gonzales 223.
Avengers, the third game winner, had Sammy Ocampo and Myrna Diaz firing the top scores of 585 and 583 to go with the 574 by Paul Antiporda, 548 by Alma Baylon 201-211 by Abet Sarte and 162 by Jimmy Aragones.
For Sky Freight veteran bowler Rene Santiago was at the helm with 589. Babes Tiongson and Grace Dasas contributed 551 and 533 from the team’s women’s side, while with two games each were Goying Salazar 191-183, Oca Bernabe 205-223 and Rod Morales 195-183.
On a day of tough scoring the number of players to reach 600 series was less than usual. Among them were Oriana’s Ding Dela Rosa and Kulisap’s Nonie Yap with 629s, Pancho Cuevas of Jem Strikers with 626, Lance’s Marcelo Manalo with 617 and Paolo Allego of Qatar Airways with 609.
