ISLAMABAD: A snooker series between India and Pakistan has been postponed due to security concerns in the southern port city of Karachi.
At least 45 people died Sunday from a blast in Karachi that targeted members of the city’s Shiite community leaving a mosque. At least 146 people were wounded in the explosion.
President Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association Alamgir A. Shaikh says “the Indian Travel Advisory Board has restricted the Indian team’s travel to Pakistan” for the March 7-10 event.
Shaikh says new dates for the event will be announced in due course.
Pakistan has not hosted a significant international sporting event in four years since gunmen attacked the Sri Lanka cricket team’s bus at Lahore in March 2009.
