ROME: Italian club Lazio says it had been ordered to play its next two home games in European competition behind closed doors after its fans were again found guilty of racist behavior by UEFA.
“Two games behind closed doors, it’s incredible,” Lazio president Claudio Lotito told Italian broadcaster Rai.
UEFA has yet to make a statement.
Lazio's latest racist abuse case, the fourth in the Europa League this season, allegedly happened during a 2-0 victory against Borussia Moenchengladbach in Rome last Thursday, with Lazio fans throwing objects.
UEFA's disciplinary panel met Wednesday and to decide on the charge, and also discussed “insufficient organization” at Olympic Stadium.
The match was Lazio’s first in a UEFA competition during a two-year probationary period after incidents at home against Tottenham and away to Spurs and Maribor.
UEFA could now activate a stadium closure order that was deferred in January.
Lazio hosts Stuttgart on March 14 in the second leg of the last 16.
UEFA has already fined Lazio €180,000 ($242,000) this season.
