Qatar Airways continued to soar and with a name change to Oryx Jets became the first team to pull a hat trick of Team of the Week victories during the 8th session in the FTBJ-ICBL 31st Conference bowling tournament at Jeddah Lanes here.
In winning its third straight accolade Oryx Jets once again distanced itself from the field with 42 points and like the previous week got a double courtesy of Majid Aslani who was named the men’s Bowler of the Week after shooting the high series of 658 on lines of 222, 200, 236.
Oryx Jets also strengthened its hold on second place in the team standings behind leader Nasser Al Hajri, which opened a big gap early in the tournament to remain in front despite struggling the past two weeks. Al Hajri had 28 points in a tie for fifth and sixth place with Hidada on the day.
D’ Barkads finished next to Oryx Jets on 36 points. Sky Freight-TFC, the last Team of the Week prior to Oryx Jets’ string of victories, tallied 29.5 points.
Jem Strikers pooled 25 points, while Lance & Thirdy and Taurus RDLR were tied on 23.5 points. Avengers, Oriana Akiera Sato and Pin Slashers filled the last three places on 20.5, 14 and 7 points in that order.
Orxy Jets finished strong by winning the third game and overall output at 2,886. Jeanette Cerbito and Edu Toledo backed up Aslani with rounds of 561 and 551 while Marie Gumpal, the ladies Bowler of the Week in the previous session, turned in the other three-game series of 477.
Oryx Jets team captain Igna Salgado cared 181-225 and Paolo Allego had 204-213.
D’ Barkads won the other half of the individual award thanks to Thess Grandia whose effort of 588 was enough to give her the ladies Bowler of the Week plum.
Leo Edejer led D’ Barkads with 607, while Cheryl Tibay made 552 and Rey Beltran 535. Manny Tibay tossed in 157-199 and Rally Zamora 199 to round out the scoring.
Over at Sky Freight Goying Salazar, team manager Emy De Guman and Babes Tiongson rolled the big blocks of 603, 591 and 582. Grace Dasas contributed 479, Rene Santiago had 180-164 and Oca Bernabe 159.
Rene Martinez was the main man at Hidada on 555 with its two players from the distaff side, Grace Siasico and Pinky Acato, shooting 551 and 492. The other scorers were Amro Al Amri 206-199, Nanding Siasoco 179-177 and Johndy Alcantara 147-173.
Bonie Garcia showed the way at Nasser with 609 that went with the 575 by Zaldy Bacero, 525 by Merlen Pamintuan, 518 by Ester Jalata, 167-189 by Cesar Monares and 178 by Randy Mata.
