The singing competition does not only aim to find the new FAPS best singer for 2013 but also contributes to a cause. Net proceeds of the event will go to Marilda Guzman, a five-year-old girl who is suffering from cancer, as a financial support for her medication.
Both Carpio (Senior Division Champion) and Moneva (Junior Category Champion) sang “Fight to Live” during their intensifying face-off round. After both champions’ soulful rendition of the song, judges came up with a 5-1 vote in favor of Carpio, which made him the first FAPS Star Quest Grand Champion. The song Fight to Live was dedicated to Marilda Guzman. It is an original composition of Gene Juanich and was interpreted by Christelle Marie Aliasas, Saudi Arabia’s pop diva.
Rose Ann Ladra (Senior Category), a dental assistant and Teo Maglonzo (Junior Category), a freshman student of Second Philippine International School (SPIS) took home the runner-up trophy in their respective categories.
During the elimination rounds, 12 contestants sang a four-minute combination of an upbeat and a slow song to qualify for the top six. In the next round the top six singers performed their favorite song, after which two competitors were chosen to sing “Fight to Live” in the finals.
