This is in response to the letter “Pakistanis suffering in Bangladesh.” One can agree that India was primarily responsible for division of Pakistan and creation of Bangladesh as well as for the dispute on Kashmir. But it is Pakistan that is wholly and solely responsible for the plight of the stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh. Successive Pakistani governments ignored and abandoned these stranded Pakistanis, leaving them to suffer generation after generation. In principle, the ultimate responsibility still lies with Pakistan but Bangladesh must not also make these Muslims suffer on humanitarian grounds and should provide them nationality and civic rights as they are also living in the same country which was also once called Pakistan. As regard Kashmir dispute, the UN must intervene in the matter and ensure its plebiscite resolution on Kashmir is implemented by India. — Hesham A. Syed, Riyadh
