The Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts (SASCA), Jazan Chapter, participated in Prince Faisal bin Khaled’s first Theater Forum for Diorama in Abha, performing the play "The Night Visitor” on Tuesday. The Abha Chapter of SASCA organized the event that was held at Asir's Educational Department.
The underlying theme of the play pitted the struggle of evil and good within man, in a dramatically charged performance that left the audience musing over this universal motif that governs human behavior. The performance was conveyed in a minimalist setting, depicting the protagonist repressing evil thoughts and battling with his internal feelings, in a simple, yet figurative monologue.
At the end of the performance, Basil Al-Hilali offered a public critique of the play, expressing his appreciation of the theme, and the actors’ outstanding performances, which delivered the message of the play in a powerful and authentic manner. Al-Hilali said he was “impressed by the script of the play, which captured man’s mental struggle with his inner thoughts, and pointed out that the role reversal of the actors was one of the most distinguishing features of the performance.”
The play was written by Abdullah Aqeel, performed by actors Abdulrahman Sayegh and Anas Hakami and directed by Ali Al-Khabrani.
The Riyadh Chapter of the SASCA was established in 2001, and is one of sixteen branches the society has established all over the Kingdom. Since its inception in 1975, SASCA has opened five committees, encompassing theater, plastic arts and Arabic calligraphy, folkloric heritage and music art, photography and a women’s committee.
