Transport Minister Jabara Al-Seraisry inspected a number of ongoing railway and road projects in the western region on Tuesday.
Among the prominent sites he visited was the Rabigh-Jeddah section of the high-speed Haramain Railway project. The minister was accompanied among others by Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) President Abdul Aziz M. Al-Hokail and Saudi Railway Co. (SAR) CEO Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih.
According to Al-Hokail, the minister visited the sites and took a good look at the Jeddah railway station currently under construction. The minister also inspected a number of bridges and tunnels constructed for the smooth running of the railway.
The minister was briefed about the developments during the first phase of the project. The first phase consists of two sections. Under the first section, land has to be reclaimed and it has to be dug and cut, and then the tracks are to be laid. Some old bridges in Jeddah have to be rebuilt. “Now, we are working on building four new bridges and a tunnel. They are expected to be complete by the end of this year,” said Al-Hokail. “The second part will include the building of four new railways stations to be connected with Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh and Madinah.” During the visit to Rabigh, the minister met contractors and consultants on the project and discussed with them the project progress and timeline.
