The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) has started distributing 10,000 food packets among poor families, widows and orphans in Makkah province during Ramadan.
Khaled Habbani, deputy supervisor of WAMY’s domestic program, said: “We cooperate with 60 charitable institutions to distribute these food packets among the poor and needy in all cities and villages of the region.”
He said the packets would contain basic food such as rice, sugar, milk, flour, cooking oil and macaroni sufficient for a family to use during the holy month.
WAMY’s food packets will reach deserving people in Dahban, Al-Laith, Qunfuda, Khulais, Thuwal, Ghamika, Wadi Hulay, Bani Yazid, Rabigh, Mastura and Hejal.
Habbani said: “These distant towns and villages will receive the lion’s share of our food packets. We also intend to distribute schoolbags and clothes for orphans in these towns and villages.”
Habbani said WAMY has been cooperating with charitable organizations, mosques and district chiefs to assist families of prisoners and people with special needs.
Meanwhile, 100 students took part in an educational program organized by WAMY in Kurdistan.
The weeklong program, titled “Youth and building the future,” aimed to encourage young people to work for community development and make use of their free time doing constructive activities.
