The outgoing consul general of Pakistan, Mr. Abdul Salik Khan, applauded the social and welfare activities rendered by the Memon Welfare Society (MWS) and thanked it for organizing a farewell party in his honor.
The MWS organized the “get together” in honor of Mr. Khan, who served in Jeddah as the top diplomat for three years.
“The consul general during his tenure of almost three years extended valuable services to integrate and strengthen the social and welfare groups of the community in a manner that will remain in our minds for a long time to come,” said MWS President Arif Memon, in his welcome address.
The farewell function was organized “to acknowledge his laudable services to the community,” he added.
Some 500 guests, both men and women, attended the ceremony to pay tribute to Khan’s “exemplary performance,” while serving the Pakistani expatriates. The guests included Deputy Consul General Imran Siddiqi, economist Dr. M. Umer Chapra and other dignitaries, doctors and businessmen of the community.
Earlier, the function was started with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an.
While presenting a brief report of welfare activities of the MWS, Mr. Tayyab Moosani, the secretary general, praised the services rendered by the outgoing consul general to the Pakistan community in Jeddah.
In his keynote address, Dr. Chapra thanked and expressed best wishes to MWS for it’s further progress.
As a tribute to their services, the MWS presented a plaque to both the consul general and the deputy consul general.
The MWS also took the opportunity to mark the completion of MWS’ five years of community services, which was celebrated with Mr. Khan and Dr. Chapra cutting a cake together.
