Water leakage detection drive launched in Madinah

The Water Directorate in Madinah has launched a drive to detect leakage in the internal water network of government buildings and residences in the city.
The directorate is rendering this service free of charge after identifying the districts with more cases of water leakage.
This drive would cover 840 government and public sector buildings such as mosques, hospitals, schools and government departments, in addition to 25,000 houses that represent over 30 percent of the total buildings in the city.
The directorate had earlier concluded contracts with firms to detect leakage and undertake repair works. Accordingly, the directorate divided Madinah into four regions to make available of the service in the best possible manner.
It has distributed leaflets in all the regions informing the people that the concerned officials will receive applications seeking detection of leakage and will fix the time to carry out the work.
The drive is part of the plan of the Ministry of Water and Electricity to bring down leakage of water to the minimum and conduct programs aimed at rationalization of water consumption.
It is noteworthy that the National Water Company has been successful in tackling more than 35,600 cases of water pipe breaks, and leakages in Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah and Taif since the beginning of this year.
These included 1,994 breaks of main and branch pipes and 11,726 household connection pipes in Riyadh city. There were over 5,000 pipe breaks in Jeddah, over 6,000 in Makkah, and 447 cases in Taif.
