Williams wins Riyadh Triathletes biathlon tilt

The Riyadh Triathletes were gifted with perfect conditions for the fifth biathlon of the season last Friday.
The event began with a 700-meter swim followed by a six-kilometer run.
Once again Phoebe Lloyd-Evans (F - Junior) excelled with a winning swim time of 10:23. Gary Williams (M - Veteran) closely followed Evans with a time of 10:41. Antonio Castellanos (M - Open) took third position with 12:04.
Lloyd-Evans and Williams both completed very fast transition times, 0:49 and 0:58 respectively, and Castellanos managed a respectable time of 1:02.
Congratulations go to Alistair McDermott (M-V), Simon Chorlton (M-V), Steve Salt (M-O), Reiner Gocian (M-M), Fiona Nichol (F-V), Paul McParland (M-S) and Andrew McLachlan (M-V) all of whom completed their transition in less than 60 seconds. The six-kilometer run consisted of three two-kilometer loops, which gave rise to many competitors running en route together and therefore acted as pacemakers. Williams again came home first in a time of 22:19, with Castellanos taking second in a time of 22:30. Gerd Muetze (M-Open) completed the run in third place with a time of 25:21.
First out of the water in the B category race was Loreli Watson (F - Open) with a time of 12:37, with Fiona Nichol (F - Veteran) in second place at 13:54. Freda Gocian (F - Veteran) came third with 14:22. Nichol and Gocian, both experienced triathletes, then raced through transition in times of 0:52 and 1:07 respectively. They were both relegated to second and third respectively with Liz Loughton (F - Open) taking pole position in a time of 43:59.
