Preparations are underway for Uzbekistan’s upcoming presidential elections.
All political parties in the country have expressed their desire to participate in the polls which would be held on March 29.
Four major political parties held regular sessions last year, discussing the issue of developing and implementing a complex action plan to ensure full implementation of the tasks outlined in their election programs.
Liberal Democratic Party has nominated incumbent President Islam Abduganievich Karimov for the March polls.
People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) has nominated Hatamjon Ketmanov; Uzbekistan National Revival Democratic Party has chosen Akmal Saidov; while Justice Social Democratic Party has picked Nariman Umarov to contest presidential elections.
According to Uzbek law, all political parties in the country must submit petitions with signatures of at least five percent of the total number of voters of the nation (20.798 million) for the registration of election candidates.
The March polls would be monitored by both local and foreign observers and authoritative international organizations.
