JEDDAH, 2 April — The Civil Defense Department in Jeddah yesterday observed International Civil Defense Day. The event at Le Meridian Hotel, was inaugurated by Prince Mishaal ibn Majed, governor of Jeddah, who urged all citizens and expatriates to take precautions and respect the safety rules of Civil Defense.

“Accidents involving fires have become very common and therefore stored items must be monitored and checked from time to time to avoid tragedies,” said the governor.

The function began with a speech by Col. Muhammad Al-Ghamdi, chief of the Civil Defense Department in Jeddah, who thanked Prince Mish’al for attending.  “We regard the governor’s presence as a great inspiration to the Civil Defense personnel,” said the colonel.

Col. Al-Ghamdi also thanked both the government and private sectors which helped make the Civil Defense’s campaign a “complete success”.

Prince Mishaal said during his speech that he had been impressed by the latest safety equipment that the Civil Defense Department has. “We should all be proud to see the latest and most up-to-date safety equipment,” he said. The occasion concluded with the exchange of commemorative gifts among the governor, the Civil Defense and other government officials.
