RIYADH, 21 April — Two boys at an intermediate school here sustained serious injuries when they were allegedly punished by a teacher. One of the boys had his wrist joint dislocated and the other suffered several cuts and bruises on his left hand, a local newspaper reported yesterday.

Saad Abdul Aziz Al-Ghamdi is reportedly a well-behaved student and his friend Sawar Muhammad is the top-scorer in the class. Saad told Al-Riyadh newspaper that the teacher flew into a fit of rage in the class for no apparent reason and beat him with brutal force that he felt terrible pain in his wrist. In fact, the teacher was making jokes with the students shortly before he underwent the sudden change of mood, he said.

The boy was taken to the Riyadh Medical Complex where he was diagnosed to have a dislocated wrist.

The next morning Sawar protested to the teacher against his harsh treatment of his friend. The teacher again lost his temper. He hit Sawar with a stick about a dozen times and the boy’s hand began to bleed.

The teacher did not allow him to go out to wash the blood stains and clean the wound. He went home after the class and his house driver took him to the hospital. Sawar said since he did not want to incriminate the teacher, he told the doctors that the injuries were due to a fall, the paper said.
