RIYADH, 21 April — Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah Al-Sheikh, head of the Supreme Council of Ulema, has asked the people to desist from denouncing any Muslim as kafir (infidel). The matter should be left to competent religious scholars, the mufti said. Al-Sheikh also said suicide bombings have no basis in Shariah as it is another form of killing oneself. Hijacking planes and frightening passengers are also against the Shariah, the sheikh added. At the same time, he said fighting the enemy was necessary.
