RIYADH, 27 April — Al-Nasr qualified to meet Al-Ittihad in the final of the King’s Cup of the Saudi Football League when the second leg of their semifinal against Al-Hilal ended in a goalless draw here last night.
Nasr triumphed by virtue of their 1-0 win in the first leg against Hilal last week. On Wednesday Ittihad had beaten Jeddah archrivals Al-Ahli 4-2 in the second leg of the semifinal after the first leg had ended goalless.
This is the first ever King’s Cup final clash between Nasr and Ittihad and the first in a final for the last five years.
Ittihad are in line for a double as they will meet Al-Ittifaq in the final of the Crown Prince Cup.
Yesterday’s clash between Nasr and Hilal was a dull affair, especially in the first half. But after the interval, Hilal pressed hard to score the equalizer.
However, some excellent work under the bar by Muhammad Al-Hojalli frustrated all their efforts.
The nearly 80,000 fans who had packed the stadium to witness the Riyadh derby must have been disappointed at the lack of goals in the match.
However, the Nasr supporters were overjoyed that their team had reached the final because of their first leg ascendancy.
