MAKKAH, 29 April — The Passport Department in Makkah is making preparations to provide services to Saudi citizens during evening hours.
Col. Faisal Al-Harthy, director of Makkah Passport Department, said the department’s offices had been working in the evenings since the beginning of this year. But it was open only for those who had to complete some paper work, he said. Now on, the department will provide passport services during the evening shifts to Saudi citizens who are government employees. A source at the Passport Department confirmed that the decision does not cover foreigners.
“All requests from foreigners, whether to renew their iqamas or any other paper work, will not be entertained unless they are submitted by their sponsors,” said the source who added that the sponsor must be working in a government department.
The source stressed that the citizens will be asked to produce their ID cards to prove that they are working in a government department. “They are the ones who work in the morning and are unable to visit the department during work time,” he said.
When asked about private sector employees who work during the morning, the official declined to comment.
