JEDDAH, 30 April — Saudi Arabia is only a few months away from the introduction of mobile phone for one more novel use. “With the help of your mobile phone you can turn on or off your home airconditioner wherever you may be,” a senior executive of a Korean electronics giant said yesterday. “Wherever you are, even far outside your home, you may switch on your AC bearing an extension number of your fixed telephone and make it cool before reaching there,” T.H. Ryu, general manager at LG Electronics, Jeddah office, said at the launch of new central air-conditioning systems, at a press conference. It was jointly addressed by J.J. Lee, vice president LG Electronics, and Hassan Shaker, chief executive officer of H.G. Ibrahim Shaker Company at the Jeddah Inter.Continental Hotel.  “Our company has played a pioneering role in developing the new exclusive use of mobile phone and we hope to introduce it here next year,” he said. “The use of mobile phone for this purpose will be found all the more great when you may want your home to be cool before returning from outside. Even when you’re abroad, you may want to keep your home cool at times, which is now possible,” he added.  Lee said the ‘Plasma’ air purifying system in airconditioners, a health care technique developed by the company, not only removes microscopic contaminants and dust, but also removes housemites, pollen and pet fur to help prevent allergic diseases like asthma. “With a filter that can be used over and over again by simply washing with water, you can enjoy clean fresh air without having to worry about changing the filter every two years as in the past and thus save costs,” Lee said adding, that all of its air-conditioning products were environment-friendly.
