JEDDAH, 2 May — Participants in a seminar at the girls campus of King Abdul Aziz University here yesterday called for a more creative approach in planning curriculums for higher education. The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the girls campus organized the seminar as part of the fifth Career Day which started on Sunday.

Analyzing a recent study on the university’s graduates and the skills they gained, Dr. Nora Faraj Al-Mosaed, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, stressed the importance of adopting creative methods by both professors and students to cultivate their talents.

Dr. Hafeeza Shugair, a professor of French, spoke about the latest scientific teaching methods which aim to nourish creative skills in students.

Dr. Azza Hejazi, a professor of psychology, urged students to develop a strong sense of self-esteem and asked them to believe that each individual possessed a special talent in some area and they have to work hard to discover and nurture it. She called on teachers to encourage personal involvement of their students and to guide them to properly utilize their talents.

Dr. Amal Filimban, a professor at the Sociology Department, elaborated on the availability of job opportunities in different sectors. She proposed setting up of new specialties in the faculty to prepare the graduates to meet the job market needs.

Dr. Rofaydah Khashoggi, general director of the girls campus, joined an open discussion with the students and faculty staff. She said more extra-curricular activities will be organized inside the campus and requested students’ cooperation to form panels to conduct various programs.
