LONDON, 3 May — Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance, Saleh Al-Sheikh emphasized the responsibility of the offices of the Islamic Call in the propagation of Islam yesterday during a visit to the new office of the Islamic Call in London.
The office has employed a number of Islamic scholars and has been maintaining good relations with the members of the Islamic community in Britain and other countries. It also establishes contacts with governmental departments and organizes training courses. Al-Sheikh highlighted the support being rendered by Saudi Arabia to Islamic centers worldwide.
In his statement following his tour of the Islamic center in London, Al-Sheikh said his ministry was extending full care and attention to Islamic centers around the world, keeping with directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd, Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, and Prince Sultan, second deputy premier, minister of defense and aviation, who is also chairman of the Council for Islamic Affairs. “Undoubtedly, the center will conduct exhaustive studies related to the Islamic Shariah, Holy Qur’an and Prophet’s Sunna. It will also provide a clear image about the past and present studies conducted on Islam by Western researchers,” Al-Sheikh said.
He also visited the Islamic Studies Center at the Faculty of African and Oriental Studies in the University of London. He was received by Prof. Muhammad Abdul Haleem, head of the King Fahd Chair for Islamic Studies. Abdul Haleem briefed the minister on the benifets of the chair for the students of Islam in Britain. In talks the minister stressed the need for supporting Islamic centers the world over because they played a significant role in solving problems of Muslim communities abroad.
