BURAIDAH, 4 May — Education Minister Dr. Muhammad Al-Rasheed has approved establishment of 21 new schools — 17 of them in Buraidah — in the Qassim region, according to Saleh Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri, director general of education in Qassim. The announcement was made by the minister during a recent visit to the region.

Al-Tuwaijri said the schools include 11 at secondary, six at intermediate and three at elementary levels.

Qassim Governor Prince Faisal ibn Bandar and Dr. Al-Rasheed attended a Qur’an memorization contest organized by the directorate of education here on Wednesday night.

In a speech on the occasion, the governor underscored the importance of education and said the sector received the greatest support and encouragement from the government. “The future society is what comes out of our schools,” the prince said.

Al-Rasheed said the number of Holy Qur’an memorization schools has reached 520 with an enrollment of more than 60,000 children. Prince Faisal distributed prizes to outstanding students and teachers.
