JEDDAH, 5 May — The first international conference on electronic health (e-Health 2001) will open in Jeddah today with more than 50 experts from around the world taking part.

Hosted by the International e-Health Association (Ie-HA) and King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, the conference features five workshops covering clinical information systems, strategies and tactics, Internet for health professionals, smart communications, home telehealth and aviation e-health as well as health professional’s concerns over information technology.

“This event of the Ie-HA is an opportunity for us to learn about the latest developments, successes and mishaps in e-health. We can build new leaderships and alliances that will further the development of e-health,” said Dr. Sultan Bahabri, Ie-HA chairman and CEO for King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah.

The event is an opportunity to underline the Kingdom’s leading role in e-health with the speakers seeking to draw a strategy for e-health applications at the international level, explain other countries’ experiences and expose the professional and ethical problems associated with e-health.

Bahabri said they intend to make e-health 2001 a very significant event in the evolution of global health care.
