JEDDAH, 6 May — Measures are under way to nationalize 50,000 jobs in Jeddah and Makkah as part of the Prince Abdul Majeed Project for Training and Employment, according to one of the project’s senior officials.

The jobs have been identified mainly in Jeddah and Makkah cities. Industrial areas in the two cities will provide  a combined total of  38,821 jobs, Abdul Aziz Al-Huzae, secretary-general of the project, said. Travel, tourism and cargo sector will generate 7,200 jobs while the gold and jewelry industry will provide 3,500 opportunities, he added.

All foreign teachers for subjects such as Islamic culture, social sciences and student counseling in private schools will be replaced by Saudi nationals by the beginning of next academic year, he said.

Saudization in private girls’ schools in the region has reached 85 percent.

The first phase of the project has found 57,021 employment opportunities for Saudi youths, Al-Huzae said. The project last year found jobs for 26,685 graduates, out of 55,290 candidates, he added.
