JEDDAH, 8 May — KFSH signed an agreement with WEB MD, one of the well known medical sites which feeds the CNN network with medical information. The agreement provides transfer of medical information to the Health Gulf (HG) site and gives it the right to translate the information into Arabic.

The hospital also signed an agreement with Health Stream, which is specialized in current health curriculum and information. The hospital signed another agreement with Smart Net to provide doctors and chemists with CDs that carry information that is found on the HG site.

The hospital also signed a deal with “Naseej” to create a medical gateway for KFSH&RC on the Internet under the name “Health Gulf” which will provide advanced medical services for the medical sector.

The third day of the “e-Health — 2001 Conference and Exhibition” saw discussions on various aspects of e-Health and its ethics. The day also included an evening session in Arabic and the topic of “Distance Learning” presented by Dr. Amira Khashgari. The session was exclusive for ladies and extolled the virtues of the Internet in this area.

The keynote speaker, who is a member of the Internet Society, highlighted the need for  accent on the credibility of the university, college or institute while making a choice. She said that many educational institutes on the Net do not have the requisite credentials, and the chooser has to be prudent while making a choice. The presentation also gave pointers in making the right choice of college and curriculum.

Four presentations entitled “4D Health care 2005 — Harnessing Digital & DNA Technologies”, “The Transition from Telemedicine to e-Health”, “Maximizing return on e-Health Infrastructure Investment” and “Continuing Education By Distance Learning” were held in the main session yesterday. The moderator of this session was Dr. Zuhair Sebai.

The next session concentrated on the relation between the doctors and the Internet. This session also included four presentations which were “Financing e-Health”, “Lessons from Space” by Dr. Charles Doarn — who was the moderator of the session — “e-Health: improving patient care in the NHS England”, “How We Got Physicians to Love Technology”.

The third session included five presentations which concentrated on delivering an e-learning approach for the health care team and the development from Telemedicine to e-Health. The session also highlighted the issue of e-Health, e-Publishing, and e-Dissemination. As for the use of e-Health from home, the session discussed e-Health — from acute care to chronic conditions in home settings and how to react in critical situations.

The last session, which was moderated by Dr. Shingekoto Kaihara, included four presentations, which highlighted the use of satellites and e-Health patient centered in e-hospital.
