JEDDAH, 8 May — Jeddah police began yesterday touring the city in their mobile investigating office, which have been put into service to speed up traffic procedure.
Four GMC trucks have been designed especially for this purpose, and are fit with furnished offices inside them.
The traffic department has launched this new project to ease the procedures during traffic accidents and other traffic incidents. The mobile office will investigate traffic accidents and will complete the procedures on the spot. The mobile offices will be stationed in areas where traffic is heavy. Capt. Muhammad Al-Omair of the Jeddah Police Department said that the offices would also be used to fine persons caught flouting traffic rules.
He said that as the concept of the mobile offices is new, the people will be made to understand the role of these mobile offices, and it will also be made clear to them that these offices will not be used as a jail or a transport to prisons.
Capt. Al-Omair said that they may face some difficulties early in aquainting the public with the role of the mobile office, but was confident that the offices will go along way in easing procedural traffic. “But we will convince them smoothly, without any force, that these offices are only for investigating and procedural work,” said Capt. Al-Omair.
Col. Abdul Aziz Al-Obailan, director of Jeddah’s General Traffic Department, said that the investigations carried out by the mobile offices will be standard to the one already in place.
