NEW DELHI, 9 May — The convener of the Babri Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC), Syed Shahabuddin, in a statement here yesterday called for the prosecution of all the accused in Babri Masjid demolition case.
The Special CBI (Central bureau of Investigation) Court recently, rejected the CBI plea for the prosecution of eight top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and the Bajrang Dal and some others on charge of conspiracy to demolish the Babari Masjid.
But the prominent Muslim leader said neither the court has dropped the charges nor absolved the accused of the charges. Indeed the high court had pointed out a technical defect and had advised the state government to cure it by an amendment.
But the Uttar Pradesh government has not issued an amendment. The state BJP leadership has been urging the government not to do so and its central leadership is singing the same tune. This shows that the BJP is not only prepared to subvert the judiciary but it is anxious to protect its leaders and prevent their trial on serious charges which, according to the high court, stand, he said.
