ISLAMABAD, 13 May — A formal request for the extradition of former Sindh Chief Minister Abdullah Shah and Munawar Talpur has been handed over to the US authorities, Dawn newspaper reported. Documents indicating involvement of the two in corruption have also been provided to the US authorities by the National Accountability Bureau, the newspaper said. NAB officials said they had been pursuing many other cases involving politicians and former bureaucrats. The newspaper, quoting sources, said arrest of Munawar Talpur and Abdullah Shah was expected shortly. A NAB spokesman, however, offered no comments, when asked to confirm the report. Sources said the extradition of these people would certainly take time as all legal formalities would have to be met before they are handed over to the Pakistani authorities. They said that extradition of former federal secretary Salman Farooqui was also sought by NAB.
