DAMMAM, 14 May — The Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry has confirmed that Abdul Rahman Al-Rashid’s statement published in a section of the press regarding the refund of Iqama fee “was wrongly reported.”
The Secretary-General of the EPCCI, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mutrif in a letter to Arab News, said : “The statement...... is wrongly reported and a clarification in this regard is being sent for publication” to the newspaper which published Al-Rashid’s statement.
The chamber had earlier said that an official statement on the report will be released on Saturday. Now it has changed its stance. Instead of an official statement, it is issuing a clarification and only to the newspaper which published the news item.
Al-Rashid’s reported statement, which is now being denied by the chamber, created confusion among both the business community and expatriates who had become hopeful that the chamber was now going to take up their cause.
