JEDDAH, 15 May — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd wished success to the third consultative summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council held in Manama yesterday.

Addressing a regular weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers which he chaired here yesterday, King Fahd  said “the consultative summit could be considered an excellent example of brotherly meetings to discuss matters beneficial to the people of the Gulf,” said Information Minister Fuad Al-Farsi in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency following the meeting.

The king underscored importance of the consultative summit as it “deals with international developments related to our region and coordinates the Gulf states’ stand toward such developments,” Al-Farsi said.

Apart from discussing several regional and international issues, the king briefed the council on the Korean President Kim Dae-jung’s recent message to him, Al-Farsi said. It focused on the potentials of cooperation between the two countries in all fields and ways to enhance them, Al-Farsi added.

The king noted that the Kingdom’s bonds of relationship with Korea have greatly been strengthened within framework of the Saudi efforts to build friendly relations with most countries in the world. Such relations are based on mutual respect and common interests with the aim of bringing about international peace and stability in general and helping to resolve  issues related to the Arab and Islamic nations in particular, Al-Farsi said.

As the most important issue facing the Arab and Muslim world is the Palestinian crisis, the Kingdom has been striving for the restitution of Palestinians’ legitimate rights.

The Kingdom also has been striving for the return of the occupied Arab territories in the Golan Heights and southern Lebanon. The settlement of these issues will bring about peace and stability in the region and for all, the information minister added.
