LONDON, 18 May— Prince Charles opened a mosque and Islamic cultural heritage center at North Kensington in West London yesterday. Charles hoped the complex will help foster cooperation and coexistence between various religions, ethnic groups and races in Britain. The Prince of Wales, who admired the Andalusian architectural style of the center, toured around the mosque, library and lecture halls. The center aims at helping British Muslims maintain their identity, said Ali Al-Ramees, chairman of the board of trustees of the center. Omani Minister of Endowments Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salami, several high-ranking officials from the United Arab Emirates and ambassadors of Muslim countries attended the opening function. There are over 2 million Muslims in Britain.
