ISLAMABAD, 28 May — Chief Executive Gen. Pervez Musharraf will preside over a two-day corps commanders’ meeting beginning June 8, to discuss the situation following Indian offer for talks. Defense-related matters, security issues including withdrawal of cease-fire by the Indian government in occupied Kashmir and the third phase of local bodies elections are also to be discussed. The meeting will be attended by principal staff officers (PSOs), defense sources said. Senior army officials will give a briefing on the operational preparedness of the armed forces and discuss the situation along the line of control. The chief executive will brief the military commanders on his talks with Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji. Senior civil officials — foreign affairs and finance secretaries — will apprise the meeting of the issues relating to foreign affairs and economy. The corps commanders will also pore over the government’s deweaponization plan and anti-smuggling campaigns to be launched shortly.
