RIYADH, 1 January — The Passports Directorate has appealed to foreigners who have come to the Kingdom to perform Umrah to leave the country before the expiration of their travel documents. Any pilgrim or visitor who stays back after the expiration his visa will be considered a violator of the country’s residence regulations and will consequently be subjected to punishments, a statement by the Passports Department said. The penalties include a fine from SR10,000 to SR100,000 or six months’ jail or both besides deportation. The citizens or residents who collude with the overstayers in any way will also face penal action, it added. (SPA)
