DAVAO CITY, 8 June — The tourism industry may face another beating with the announcement of a group that some resorts within the Davao Gulf are contaminated with coliform. John Ryan Largo, Human Development International chair,  claimed that some of the beaches even have a higher coliform content than those found in Boracay in the Visayas.  Largo refused to name the resorts which they considered dangerous to swimmers.  He said their organization is planning to put up warning signs in front of these resorts to caution people from swimming in these beaches.  Largo said the welfare of the people comes first even if it means driving away tourists from  the area. Samal island, some coastal towns of Davao Oriental and Daval del Sur which are packaged as potential tourist destinations are part of the Davao Gulf.  "The coastal communities are slowly getting aware of the importance of cleaning the beaches," he said, as a result of the intensive educational and awareness drive of the people in the communities by HDI and other environmental groups.
