JEDDAH, 12 January — A Pakistani was strangled to death by a Nigerian in Jeddah's Azizia district on Wednesday following a quarrel. Police arrested Abdullah Muhammad, 23, the alleged killer, within 15 minutes of the appalling incident.
Shafiq Ahmad Nazeer, the Pakistani, was living in Azizia with his family and is survived by his wife and three sons — Zuhaib, 14, and twins Mukarram and Moadhem, 4 years — and a daughter, Remza 11.
The fighting between Muhammad, the Nigerian and Ahmad, the Pakistani, started when the latter accused the former of stealing his son's bicycle, Okaz newspaper said. "It started with a furious exchange of words, followed by fighting and ended up in strangling," it added.
Nazeer was taken to Sameera Polyclinic in Azizia soon after the incident but he breathed his last before reaching the clinic. Doctors could do nothing but to declare him dead on arrival.
Patrol police inquired about the incident when they saw a unusually large number of people in front the polyclinic. After collecting information about the alleged killer, they moved immediately to where he was living and arrested him in a record time, the paper said. The crime was followed up by Col. Muhammad Mogherbal, director of patrol police in the Makkah region, and Col. Muhammad Idrees, commander of patrol police in Jeddah.
Nazeer was working for Sameer company for photographic equipment. His sad demise has left his family and friends in deep grief and sorrow.
