JEDDAH, 9 June — In the “celebration of merit” Jeddah International School Parents Forum (JIISPAF), felicitated the students of the school who were the top-scorers in the Grade 10 and Grade 12 examinations this year.

Afroz Shameem, topper of Grade 12 and Vipin Vinod, topper of Grade 10 were given gold medals and plaque of appreciation. A special prize was also given to Asjeena Andru for securing 100 marks in general science paper of Grade 10.

The felicitation, which was organized in the Jeddah Trident hotel on Thursday, was attended by Consul General Syed Akbaruddin, Farouk Luqman, editor in chief of Malyalam News, Obaidullah Khan Azmi, a member of parliament from India, chairman of the school managing committee, Abdul Raheem, director of school, Brig. Eqbal Siddiqui, Principal S.S.U. Tabrez MC members Chaudhry Basharatullah, Jamil Sayeed, H. Bayazid, Dr. Moiz Ahmad, besides a large number of community members.

The program started with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an followed by the welcome address by the JIISPAF General Secretary Mammed Koya. JIISPAF President Abdul Basit delivered the presidential address. 

Akbaruddin, who was the chief guest, in his address, interspersed with interesting anecdotes, lauded the efforts of the teachers, principal and the director of the school. While congratulating the young achievers, the consul general also consoled those who could not do well in their exams and said that “minor setback should not be taken as complete failure,” and added that the “heights reached and attained by great men were not achieved in one day.” 

He termed the felicitation of the students as the “celebration of merit” and wished the students to do “farewell in life.” Luqman also congratulated the toppers and spoke about his own school experience in Eden. Obaidullah Azmi also thanked the students for bringing laurels to their parents, school and their country and wished them a bright future. Afroz and Vipin, the toppers, thanked their parents for their continuous support and encouragement and also expressed gratitude for their teachers.

One of the vice presidents of JIISPAF, Moin Rizvi conducted the proceeding while the vote of thank was offered by the forum’s Vice President Amir Ali. Syed Ehteshamuddin, JIISPAF executive member, earlier, felicitated the guest. The evening was sponsored by Uni Lever and Hamid Dehalvi for Gold and Jewelry Establishment.
