JEDDAH, 10 June — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, yesterday congratulated British Prime Minister Tony Blair on his victory in the general elections. In his message, the king congratulated the Labor leader on the “confidence” the British people reposed on him during Thursday’s vote and wished him “success in fulfilling the aspirations” of his people.

King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah also stressed the “friendship and solid relations” between the two countries and their “common desire to strengthen peace and stability in the Middle East and all over the world”. Prince Sultan, second deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, sent a similar message to Blair.
