JEDDAH, 17 January — An Indian worker committed suicide in the Salama district of Jeddah on Monday morning. Abdul Razak, who worked at a furnished apartments building, was found hanging in a vacant building near his workplace. A suicide note addressed to the authorities said he took his life because he was hopeless.

S.A., the landlord, said Abdul Razaak had been working for him for the past two months, but he had been working in the Kingdom for two years. He leaves behind his wife, two children and his parents.

The landlord added that nothing unusual was noticed in Abdul Razaak's behavior or mood. He said that the body was discovered by his employees after they searched for Abdul Razaak who was missing. After spotting the body, they called the police who are now investigating the case.

The owner of the building also added that he received a request from Abdul Razaak's family to bury his body in the Kingdom. The burial has not taken place yet because the police procedures have not been completed.

One of Abdul Razaak's co-workers told Arab News that he had received a letter from his family in India a few days ago. He believes that the letter might have had something to do with his suicide because he had been depressed since then.

There has been an increase in the number of suicides in Jeddah recently. Another Indian worker was found hanging at a park in the Aziziah district last week. A 29-year-old unemployed Saudi who shot himself recently remains in a coma at a city hospital.
