CAIRO newspapers recently carried some strange stories. One story concerned the arrest of several members of a cult called the Agency of the Lord’s Soldiers who, if reports can be believed, are agents of the devil. The cult’s rituals, which are an outrage to any religion, morality or social conventions, consist of unheard of perversions. Not only does the cult demand its members perform reprehensible acts before other members but they must also be photographed or videotaped in those compromising positions. They were arrested while practicing the rituals of devil worship in a house on the River Nile.
The inquiries have revealed that the spiritual head of the group, a computer engineer by profession, has traveled to Israel and another foreign country several times. He has succeeded in converting several youths to his cult. The cult has three centers in Cairo where they met periodically and practiced their sinful ceremonies. It was shocking to learn that one of the 30 arrested cult members was a professor at a leading medical college in Cairo. Stranger still, the doctor confessed and demonstrated most of the loathsome practices which were performed both singly and collectively.
Another sensational case in the Egyptian media concerned the arrest of a millionaire who was married to more wives than the law allows. He had made a vast fortune from a line of women’s clothing especially designed for women behind the veil. He spent a good part of that fortune searching for beautiful wives whose number allegedly was 61. He was very particular that each wife should be a virgin no older than 16. At one time, he was reportedly married to two sisters at the same time which is a clear violation of religious law. He was also guilty of having five wives at the same time. Religion is a cover for many people to make money and may also be an excuse for perpetrating their illegal practices. Where, however, can they seek shelter from the wrath of God?

RAPE is not news these days. However, it became a scoop in Thailand when a man was hospitalized recently after being gang-raped by a group of women. The unfortunate man was standing in front of a crowded fast-food outlet in Bangkok when five women forced him into a car and drove him to a deserted building. He was forced to drink intoxicants. According to the man, the women, aged between 20 and 40 — some of them married — forced him to commit the act.
The man was seriously injured by the time the women had had their way with him. Upon receiving the complaint, the police rushed to the scene and began a women-hunt. After they had arrested all the women, the police made an unexpected turnaround. They offered the man inducements to retract his complaint. The women were willing to compensate their victim with a total of 1,600 baht — about $45. Strangely to say, the man was happy to get the money and withdrew his complaint.
