QUETTA, 18 June — An accountability court in Quetta sentenced Mir Faiq Ali Jamali, a former provincial minister, to three-year jail term and fined him 600,000 rupees on graft charges.

The former minister has been charged with embezzlement in Baitul Maal funds.  The court also convicted a former deputy commissioner for corruption. It was the 9th graft case against Jamali. The former minister was handed down punishment and slapped heavy fines in other eight cases. It was the last case against Jamali on graft charges.

The court ordered that in case of default in payment of fine, Jamali would have to serve an additional one and a half year jail term.  The court has also barred Jamali from holding any public office for 10 years. Another accused, Muhammad Khan Jamali, was given one-year jail term in his absence. He has already been declared a proclaimed offender.
